1. Our commitment to your privacy

Stichting Civilized World Foundation respects your privacy and is committed to handling personal data carefully, transparently and securely.

This Privacy Policy explains:

  • what personal data we collect;
  • why we collect and use it;
  • what becomes publicly visible when you sign the Manifesto;
  • how you can sign anonymously;
  • how long we retain personal data;
  • how we protect it; and
  • what rights you have.

This Privacy Policy applies to cwf.world, including the Manifesto, the signature registry, newsletter subscriptions, contact forms and other services offered through the website.

2. Who is responsible for your personal data?

The party responsible for processing personal data through cwf.world is:

Stichting Civilized World Foundation
Registered office: Fluwelen Burgwal 58, Den Haag, Netherlands
Postal address: Fluwelen Burgwal 58, Den Haag, Netherlands
Dutch Chamber of Commerce number: [pending]

3. Personal data we collect

3.1 When you sign the Manifesto

We may collect:

  • your name, unless you choose to sign anonymously;
  • your country;
  • the date and time of your signature;
  • your email address, where voluntarily provided;
  • your choice to sign publicly or anonymously;
  • confirmation of your consent;
  • limited technical data needed to protect the integrity of the signature process, such as your IP address, browser information or a verification token.

Your email address is not publicly displayed.

You do not need to subscribe to the newsletter to sign the Manifesto.

3.2 When you sign anonymously

When you select the anonymous option, we do not need your name for public display.

Where technically possible, we will not collect or retain your name when you choose to sign anonymously. The public registry will display “Anonymous” instead.

3.3 When you subscribe to our newsletter

We may collect:

  • your email address;
  • your name, if voluntarily provided;
  • the date and time of subscription;
  • evidence that you consented to receiving the newsletter;
  • limited delivery information needed to manage newsletter subscriptions.

Newsletter consent is separate from signing the Manifesto. Signing the Manifesto does not automatically subscribe you to the newsletter.

3.4 When you contact us

When you contact us, we may collect:

  • your name;
  • your email address;
  • your organisation or role, if provided;
  • the content of your message;
  • other information you voluntarily provide.

3.5 Information collected automatically

When you visit cwf.world, limited technical information may be processed, including:

  • IP address;
  • browser and device type;
  • operating system;
  • date and time of access;
  • pages visited;
  • referring website;
  • cookie preferences;
  • security and error logs.

We use this information only to operate, secure, maintain and improve the website.

When a form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, additional technical security signals may be processed, including IP address, browser and device characteristics, user-agent information, TLS-related characteristics, and information about the website or form being accessed. These signals are used to distinguish legitimate visitors from automated or malicious traffic.

4. Public display of Manifesto signatures

The purpose of signing the Manifesto is to make public support for making war obsolete visible.

Before signing, you can choose between a public signature and an anonymous signature.

4.1 Public signature

When you sign publicly, the public registry may display:

  • your name;
  • your country;

Your signature will also be included in the worldwide total and in the signature count for your country.

4.2 Anonymous signature

When you sign anonymously, the public registry displays:

  • “Anonymous” instead of your name;
  • your country.

Your signature remains included in the worldwide total and in the signature count for your country.

Your name will not be publicly displayed.

4.3 Search engines and public sharing

Publicly displayed information may be:

  • viewed by anyone;
  • indexed by search engines;
  • shared through social media;
  • copied by website visitors;
  • temporarily stored by internet archives or search-engine caches.

We can remove or anonymise information from cwf.world after a verified request. However, we cannot guarantee the immediate removal of copies that have already been made by independent search engines, archives, social networks or other website visitors.

5. Why we process personal data

5.1 Registering and displaying your signature

We process your information to:

  • record your support for the Manifesto;
  • display your signature according to your chosen privacy setting;
  • maintain worldwide and country-level signature totals;
  • demonstrate public support for the development of the Global Constitution to Make War Obsolete.

Legal basis: your explicit consent.

5.2 Protecting the integrity of the Manifesto

We may process limited technical information to:

  • identify duplicate submissions;
  • prevent misuse;
  • protect the website;
  • maintain a credible and reliable public registry.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating a secure and trustworthy signature platform.

5.3 Sending newsletters

We use your email address to send news and progress updates only when you have separately agreed to receive them.

Legal basis: your consent.

You can unsubscribe at any time through the link included in every newsletter.

5.4 Responding to communications

We use information submitted through contact forms or email to respond to questions, feedback, partnership proposals and other requests.

Legal basis: responding to your request and our legitimate interest in communicating with people interested in the Foundation’s mission.

5.5 Meeting legal obligations

We may process or retain information where necessary to:

  • comply with applicable law;
  • respond to a legally valid request from a competent authority;
  • prevent or investigate fraud or misuse;
  • establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

Legal basis: compliance with a legal obligation or our legitimate legal interests.

6. Your consent

By signing the Manifesto, you confirm that:

  • you have read this Privacy Policy;
  • you understand that your signature will become publicly visible;
  • you have chosen whether your name should appear publicly or as “Anonymous”;
  • you explicitly consent to the registration and publication of your signature in accordance with that choice.

You may withdraw your consent at any time.

Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before consent was withdrawn. After receiving and verifying your request, we will remove or anonymise your public signature unless limited retention is required by law or necessary to document your request.

7. Sharing personal data

Stichting Civilized World Foundation does not:

  • sell personal data;
  • rent personal data;
  • trade personal data;
  • provide personal data to advertisers;
  • share personal data with other organisations for their own commercial, political or marketing purposes.

We may use carefully selected service providers that are technically necessary to operate and protect cwf.world, such as:

  • website-hosting providers;
  • database and cloud-service providers;
  • email and newsletter platforms;
  • cybersecurity and spam-prevention services;
  • website maintenance providers.

Where a service provider acts as our processor, it may process personal data only:

  • to provide the agreed service;
  • on our documented instructions;
  • subject to appropriate confidentiality, security and data-protection obligations; and
  • for no independent purpose, unless the provider clearly informs users that it processes certain information under its own legal responsibility.

Cloudflare Turnstile

We use Cloudflare Turnstile to protect our forms and signature process against bots, spam, fraudulent submissions and other misuse. When you use a protected form, Cloudflare may process limited technical signals, such as your IP address, browser and device information, security-related browser characteristics, and information about the website and form being accessed.

Cloudflare processes these signals partly on our behalf to provide the Turnstile security service. Cloudflare may also process limited signals under its own responsibility to improve its bot-detection capabilities. Turnstile is not used by CWF for advertising, behavioural profiling or marketing.

More information is available in Cloudflare’s Turnstile Privacy Addendum.

This does not change our commitment that personal data will never be sold or made available to others for their independent use.

We may disclose information only where required by applicable law, a court order or a legally valid request from a competent public authority.

8. International processing

We aim to process and store personal data within the European Economic Area.

Where a necessary service provider processes information outside the European Economic Area, we will ensure that an appropriate legal protection mechanism is in place, where required.

This may include:

  • an adequacy decision;
  • approved standard contractual clauses;
  • contractual and technical safeguards;
  • another legally recognised transfer mechanism.

9. How long we retain personal data

We retain personal data only for as long as it is needed for the purpose for which it was collected.

Manifesto signatures

A public or anonymous signature remains in the Manifesto registry until:

  • you ask us to remove it;
  • you withdraw your consent;
  • the registry is discontinued; or
  • retaining the signature is no longer necessary.

After removal, we may retain a minimal internal record where necessary to document your request, protect the integrity of the registry or comply with a legal obligation.

Consent records

Information demonstrating when and how consent was provided or withdrawn may be retained for up to five years after the relevant processing has ended, where necessary to demonstrate compliance.

Newsletter information

Newsletter information is retained until you unsubscribe.

After unsubscribing, we may retain your email address on a suppression list. This is used only to ensure that you do not receive another newsletter without providing new consent.

Contact messages

General correspondence will normally be retained for no longer than two years, unless a longer period is necessary because of an ongoing collaboration, agreement, dispute or legal obligation.

Technical and security logs

Technical and security logs will normally be retained for no longer than 90 days, unless a longer period is necessary to investigate fraud, misuse or a security incident.

Cwf.world and the Manifesto-signing service are intended for people aged 16 and over.

A person under the age of 16 should provide personal data or sign the Manifesto only with the permission of a parent or legal guardian.

If we discover that personal data from a child has been submitted without the required permission, we will remove it.

We do not use personal data to make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant consequences for visitors or signatories.

Automated tools may be used to identify:

  • spam;
  • bots;
  • duplicate signatures;
  • security threats;
  • attempted misuse.

Where appropriate, material decisions resulting from these checks will be subject to human review.

16. Links to other websites

Cwf.world may contain links to websites or services operated by other organisations.

We are not responsible for how independent websites collect, use or protect personal data. We encourage visitors to review the privacy information of those websites before providing personal information.

  • website functionality changes;
  • new service providers are introduced;
